Crushed velvet makes an interesting backdrop, too. A bit cheaper than real velvet.

I keep it all on the Q.T. for now, but give it a try! It works great with flowers, especially as they are dying.

I appreciate the feedback, Sam. I’m a fan of the soft-focus look, myself, but I know it isn’t for everybody đŸ™‚

Thanks for your comment, Rodger! You’re right, these are handheld. I do sometimes use a tripod with a deep depth of field, but it’s a different style, and I like to experiment with different options.

Thanks for your feedback, Ahmed! I took the photos this way because I prefer this soft look, myself, but I recognize that it isn’t for everybody.

Thanks so much, Narendra! Your words mean a lot. I do recognize that the soft-focus look isn’t for everybody, but I really love it, myself, and I’m glad you do, as well đŸ™‚

Thanks so much for your thoughts! You’re completely right–there are many different macro photography styles, some which involve a softer look, others which involve pin-sharp shots. Both are a lot of fun, and both can result in gorgeous photos! I love the shot you posted–gorgeous colors and composition!

Thanks for your feedback! Of course, I have personal feelings here (I took the photos that way for a reason), but I definitely recognize that the look isn’t for everybody. I’ll note that all the photos technically are in focus–the plane of focus does lie on the subject, though sometimes only at the very edge–but the appearance is soft and hazy.
