I thought only light can do this but now I understand reflector can do better work when additional light source is not available….

I used to have exactly the same problem, but there are a few short videos on YouTube on this. Here’s one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjlsP9KDjcs

I’ve had a reflector for a long time but have been too nervous to use it because I really didn’t understand where to place it. This helps!

Just as a footnote, be careful with which reflector you are using at which time of day. I did a portrait of two my nieces using the gold reflector at around golden hour when the sun is sinking lower in the sky and the shot came out much too orange for my liking. I know you can tweak it in Lr or other editing software but it is so much better if you can avoid too much post processing if possible. Just my opinion based on my own personal experience.

One thing you don’t mention is – what colour do you find the best? Gold outside? When would you use the silver reflector?

Grip the open reflector on opposite sides with each hand on the edges, pull the reflector rapidly toward yourself making a taco shell shape, and quickly rotate your gripped hands in opposite directions (one rotating towards you, the other away from you) till the taco collapses into a smaller circle back on itself in its optimal storage size; then get it in the bag as soon as possible.

I loved how it showed where the reflector was positioned along w/ the actual photos. Great learning tool for a first-timer like myself!
